Amides as Primary FG:

  • Root suffix for amides as primary functional group: -amide.
N-propylethanamide

Amides as Substituent

  • Like esters, amides are not easily named as substituents.
  • Locant “N” is used for any substituent on nitrogen.
(E)-N-(2-chloro-1-methylethyl)-2-butenamide
